What We Do
Servants of Shelter is a community-based nonprofit 501(c)3 that upholds the dignity of persons in need of temporary shelter, permanent supportive housing, supportive services, and resources.
In 2017, we provided almost 1,500 stays with the addition of our new shelter. In 2018, we added two additional units in our shelter which allowed us to provide over 3,000 nights of shelter. In 2019 and 2020, we provided 4,000 nights of shelter and purchased a second apartment building with four units of Permanent Supportive Housing- the first ever in Koochiching County. In 2021 and 2022, we provided over 5,000 nights of shelter each year.
In 2022, we completed our largest expansion yet with the purchase of the Northern Lights Motel. When complete, this project will provide six studio shelter units (30-90 days), 16 one bedroom Permenent Supportive Housing units, our offices/onsite Case Management services, and a full drop-in center with laundry, showers, cooking facilities, guest/tenant computer/printer/scanner, and mini food shelf/hygiene shop.
As of April. 2023, we have our Northern Lights Drop-in Center and offices operational, and are sheltering six households, and eleven PSH households on lease at this facility. Combined with our other two facilities (Bluehaven Shelter and PSH) we house 26 households every night.
In addition to providing safe, warm shelter, we provide assistance with transportation, groceries, camping supplies, and other support services out of our office and drop-in center.
If you know of anyone in need, please have them contact us at (218) 285-2092.
